How does Pieter.com work?

When I was a kid I remember the first times I used my dad’s computer and it was running Windows 3.1, it changed my life and just the interface with the icons was so magical. One of my dreams actually was to have my own “icon” or well just a program in the program manager. Which I think is what led me to coding.Another moment I remember was the first time I saw the internet. A friend of my brother visited our house for a LAN party and he had to download a driver for a network card I think. He took his modem out, connected the telephone plug in our outlet, opened WinSock and the modem sound started playing.He was focused on downloading the driver files, but I was shocked seeing the internet for the first time. And kept asking him to visit all the sites (URLs) I heard existed from television. Like TMF chat, the Dutch music television channel’s chat. He opened it and it was an actually interactive website and I was shocked.I wanted to recreate this experience to keep it alive. Many people when they get to this stage of nostalgia will buy old computers and put them in their house. But that’s kinda limited. I want EVERYONE to experience the classic Windows computer and be able to do stuff with it.And most importantly it should have 24/7 internet connectivity to be part of the modern internet. Because there’s other DOS and Windows emulators on the web but none of them have actual internet connectivity. Which is the most magical part of all of this.

Why did you create Pieter.com?

Gopher is the actual predecessor to the modern WWW, no modern browser supports it anymoreBut Netscape does, and there's actually a whole world out there of people still actively using it.There's live chats, people made gateways to Reddit, and you can the live weatherAround ~1990, Gopher and HTTP were competing who would be the protocol of the web, HTTP won because of its freedom: you could design any interface in HTML without the restrictions of the Gopher menu-based systemAnd then in 1993 the University of Minnesota (who invented Gopher) really killed it when they started charging licensing Interior AI lets you upload photos of your current interior, select a style and redesign it. It takes half a minute to generate and then you get photorealistic renders of your new interior. And best of all, you can do all this from your laptop or phone without having to pay an expensive interior designer $100s or $1000s. After sign up you get access to Interior AI's studio which lets you use 30+ room types and 50+ interior styles.

How does Interior AI's interior designer work?

Interior AI has different modes for different purposes. [ Interior design with 3D Vision ] tries to maintain the interior of your current room while changing its style. [ Interior design (2D photo) ] is the same but manipulates the space more and does not stick to the 3d objects like furniture that's already in the room. [ Virtual Staging AI ] is specifically to fill up empty spaces and stage them with furniture. [ Freestyle ] does not require any input photo, and just generates interior designs from scratch based on the style and room type you picked. [ Sketch2Image ] converts your interior sketches directly into photorealistic renderings. And finally [ SketchUp ] lets you upload a screenshot from your SketchUp design and it will transform it into a photorealistic render.

How do the different design modes work?

Yes, Interior AI has a special Virtual Staging AI mode, which lets you fill empty spaces with furniture while maintaing the building's construction. Simple upload a photo, select the room type, and interior design style you'd like to see. Then under Mode, select [ Virtual Staging AI ] and tap [ Create ].

Can I virtually stage with Interior AI?

Due to lots of fraud attempts, we've had to increase our payment security. Firstly, disable your VPN or proxy server. Then make sure your name, CVC and postal code match the one on your payment card and of your bank account. Also your card country should be the same as your billing country. And finally make sure you enable 3D Secure or similar authentication on your card with your bank.

My payment method is not accepted when signing up

We recommend uploading photos with in a straight angle towards a wall or window. Photos from angles do work but perform worse than straight photos. Make sure the photo is sharp and clearly lit. The resulting output is heavily reliant on the photo you upload as input.

What type of photos should I upload of my current interior?

We accept JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF files only. HEIC is not supported now, so you'll have to convert those to JPG first (you can do on MacOS by right clicking → Quick Actions → Convert Image → and then JPG.

What file formats of photos do you accept as my current interior?

Based on the current processing times, it takes about 25 seconds to design one interior. You can render up to 16 designs at the same time though!

How long does it take to create an AI interior design?

We only use your photos to create AI interior design renders. We do not train on them like other companies, and your photos and renders are only accessible by you.The photos you upload and designs you generate stay private. Your personal data and images are stored securely, and our system is designed to protect your information from unauthorized access.

What will you do with my interior photos?

Who built and is behind Interior AI?

The resemblance of your interior depends on the quality of photo you upload and which design mode you select. The better your photos, the more accurately the AI can understand and represent your home's unique characteristics. Some design modes are more accurate than others. For example selecting [ Creative ] will get you more wild ideas but they will follow your home’s construction less, so might not be realistically feasible. Selecting [ Interior design (with 3D Vision) ] sticks very close to the current shape of your home interior while only changing the style.We keep improving our models every day

How much will the AI interior redesign match my current interior and home construction?

Sometimes yes. Depending on the quality of the uploaded photo, and the type of designs you render, you might see some AI artefacts. Any app that uses generative AI imaging will have artefacts. They can be illogical things like chairs with too few legs, illogical construction etc. From our experience, about 90% of renders you make will be good enough, and 10% will be very good. We also have an editor so you can brush away artefacts yourself and regenerate those parts. We're improving Interior AI every day to reduce artefacts for example by auto-detecting them and then re-trying. But remember it's not perfect yet and we're not promising it is!

Will my AI interior designs have artefacts?

Yes, our payment processor is secure. We use Stripe for financial processing, and we do not store any information about your card ourselves.Stripe ensures bank-level security standards.

Is your payment processor secure?

We accept payments via credit or debit cards, including MasterCard, VISA, American Express, as well as iDeal, SOFORT, Bancontact, Przelewy24, Giropay, EPS, GrabPay, AliPay, and many more. However, we do not accept PayPal or cryptocurrency and are not planning to.

What payment methods do you accept?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds as costs incurred for generating AI images are extremely high. In turn, our upstream providers do not let us ask for refunds for the GPU processing time used to generate your AI interior designs. This would make it a loss making endeavor for us. You can cancel your subscription at any time. I can't login

The Nomads.com chat is actively moderated to keep it a nice place. Sometimes users are timed out for a few minutes to hours if they break the <a target="" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="https://ideasandbugs.com/help/articles/5228830-what-are-the-nomadscom-rules">rules</a>.The most common reasons for being timed out are: 1) trying to post self-promotion links/spam 2) trying to DM spam lots of people when you just signed up 3) not following the guidelines 4) being not nice and fighting with peopleThere's a reason other digital nomad communities are predominantly 90% self-promotion spam and self promotion and Nomads.com isn't. My chat message was removed and I was timed out, why?

Nope. PayPal's API is still very resource intensive to maintain and there isn't enough demand for Bitcoin payments yet to invest the time and effort to implement it into Nomads.com. You can use a crypto-funded credit card like Coinbase Card though.

Do you accept PayPal or cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin?

The Nomad Score of cities is based on all the different data points, with highest weight given to cost (should be affordable), current temperatures (should be comfortable), internet speed (should be somewhat fast and usable) and safety (should have low crime). Other indicators are also important like low in racism, gay/LGBTQ+ friendliness, air quality, if it's fun to live and if there's good nightlife.Throughout the day the site keeps updating its data (including temperatures, humidity, internet speeds, exchange rates etc.) which means that at any moment you'll see the best cities recommended to you. Scores are re-generated every 10 minutes.The ranking shows considerable changes throughout the seasons. In the summer, places in the US and Europe start moving up while (like Berlin) in the winter Asia (like Thailand) and South America (like Medellin) do very well.

That was a great start, but crowdsourced data has by nature challenges with consistency. For example, some people have a more expensive taste than others and will tell you the rent in a city is higher than the actual average.To mitigate this, we've since switched to public data sets by the UN, WHO, IMF, World Bank for things like demographic, crime, safety and healthcare information, as well as public APIs for things like weather, air quality and traffic density. All data is processed and normalized constantly. Practically that means there might be 42 different samples for air quality in Amsterdam, and 9 different internet speed measurements for Tokyo. Our robots will remove outliers, discount older values and calculate median values that have the highest probability of being accurate when you arrive in a place. The more data (and thus samples) is inserted into the site, the more accurate the overall data becomes.

What is the source of your data?

How much it costs to live in a place varies by person. For cost data, our data is within the range of 90% of other cost of living sites. Ratings about cities can be especially subjective. Safety level is a particular datapoint that's highly discussed. <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="http://Nomads.com">Nomads.com</a> uses the most recently available crime statistics as well as armed conflict and political stability data for each place. As with any website with lots of data about lots of cities and countries all around the world, there will always be data points that are not accurate. Even more, many people have a tendency to be overly positive and patriotic about their own city or country, which might not strike with the reality if compared to other places.We highly suggest to always double check data you find here with other sites before you go travel, to be sure. The nature of data is that the more sources you check, the more broad and accurate idea you get of the reality. Even then, keep in mind that how a place feels to you when you're there can be completely different than what any site, person or app tells you.There isn't a site with data about destinations to travel that will ever be fully accurate. Data like this is by nature dynamic and subjective.

We automatically download new photos from Unsplash and Wikipedia by searching for the city, state and country name. Because the robots don't know which photos are right or which one are the best, we let you vote on it.In most cases this works but sometimes a photo is wrong. You can help fix this by voting for the right photo: click on a city and go to the Photos tab. Then click on the photo you like most and think is the most accurate depiction of a city.Votes are counted daily and then new photos are downloaded. We cache them for 7 days to a month so it might take a week or more for photos to be replaced! Be patient.

It goes a long way back. To start in 2009, when I was studying in Amsterdam I had the opportunity to study abroad. I studied and lived in Korea with my two Dutch friends, <a target="" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="https://x.com/hassejansen">Hasse</a> and Sam. Imagine never having been outside of Europe before and being dropped in the middle of nowhere in Seoul and having to figure things out. It was exciting and life changing. Back then I made a <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="http://youtube.com/pandadnb">YouTube channel</a> for electronic music, and YouTube paid me a few hundred dollars for the ads it ran on it. I knew I had to update my channel when I'd be in Korea, or it would die out. So I bought a small laptop that could barely render videos, and managed to keep my channel up to date and upload a new video every week. That was the first moment I was essentially working remotely away from home and saw it might work.In 2012, I had almost graduated university with a Master's degree in Entrepreneurship. I just needed to write my master's thesis. Me and my friend Jim went to <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="https://nomads.com/san-francisco">San Francisco</a> and couchsurfed for months while we both finished off our thesis. I had rented out my room in Amsterdam, so I had to pack my stuff in boxes. When I came back from San Francisco, I hardly unpacked anything. What's the history of digital nomads?

Digital nomads, or location independent remote workers, are people who live at least part of the year away from their home country while working remotely as an employee for their employer, as a contractor for companies or if they have their own business for themselves.The classic stereotype of digital nomads is that they move fast from place to place every week or few weeks, while working on their laptop on a beach. Not much of that is true anymore in 2025: most people on <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="http://Nomads.com">Nomads.com</a> move only every 4 to 6 months, to the same handful of places, work from coworking spaces or cafes and have close ties to the places they visit and regularly come back to to meet their friends from all over the world. And hardly anybody works from the beach: too much sand, and too much sun glare on your screen.Just like the traditional nomadic tribes which <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomad">"follow a fixed annual or seasonal pattern of movements and settlements"</a>, remote working travelers do the same. Many like to stay in climates around 23°C/74°F, and will move based on the seasons.The term "digital nomad" has been used and abused over the last decades, including in shady online courses and get rich quick schemes, and for that reason many remote workers who travel are wary of using that term to describe themselves. Unfortunately the alternative terms haven't taken off yet. The faster that remote work becomes mainstream, the faster the term digital nomad will go out of fashion and we'll see it as normal that people work from different countries based on their personal preferences in living.

What is a digital nomad?

There are currently 10 million to 100 million digital nomads in the world in 2025. This is based on the below assumptions (last updated: 2025-01-29)It's hard to estimate how many digital nomads exist, but let's try with some live data from this site (this paragraph is live updated based on <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="http://Nomads.com">Nomads.com</a> data). To do this we have to make some assumptions though, so take this with a grain of salt.In the last year, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="http://Nomads.com">Nomads.com</a> got 5,187,396 visits. About 20% of those visits are unique users, or 1,037,479 users. Not everyone who visits is already a nomad, probably most are wanna be nomads: but let's assume 25% are nomads or 259,370 people. If we assume <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="http://Nomads.com">Nomads.com</a> captures 10% of the entire demographic of digital nomads in a year (it's uncommon for companies to capture double digit amounts of a market), that'd mean there's 2,593,698 digital nomads.<a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="http://Nomads.com">Nomads.com</a> mostly has an English-speaking Western audience though, which is only 20% of the world. Then again, most of the world is probably not in a position to go work remotely and travel (yet) due to differences in income. If we assume 40% of the world is though (or double the English speaking population), that means we can count 5,187,396 digital nomads.That's only self-described digital nomads though. If we make the definition broader to people who work remotely at least part of the year in a country different than their home country the number might double to 10,374,792 or triple to 15,562,188 digital nomads in the entire world.There's actual research that has surveyed this too. <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="https://www.mbopartners.com/state-of-independence/research-trends-digital-nomads/">MBO Partners</a> concluded "4.8 million independent workers currently describe themselves as digital nomads [in the United States]". The U.S. has a population of ~330 million people. That means 1.5% self-describes as a digital nomad. If we use that percentage for the entire world, we get ~100 million digital nomads. But most of the world isn't as developed as the U.S. Even if we only add Europe: 741 million people * 1.5% = ~10 million digital nomads. Adding back U.S. to that gets us to close to ~15 million digital nomads. MBO's research is within the range of 10 million - 100 million above.Let's try one more calculation: business travelers. The Business Travel Association reports that in the U.S. alone there are <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="link" href="https://www.creditdonkey.com/business-travel-statistics.html">405 million business trips</a> taken per year with the average traveler taking 12-14 trips. What if an American working for a U.S. startup checks and answers their work email in a Berlin hotel while visiting on a tourist visa? That'd constitute work in official legal terms, but should that be illegal? Probably not.Work permits are there to protect the local population from having anyone come to the country and compete with them on getting jobs. This makes perfect sense as you don't want the whole world to just come fly to your country and start working and pushing wages down for locals. However, 99% or more of remote workers visiting a country don't compete with locals on jobs. They're not going to restaurant kitchens to cook, instead they'll be in Berlin coding for startups in San Francisco which has customers from all over the world. If anything, governments would want to promote that as it means more consumer spending than tourists, and socializing with locals might mean technological, knowledge and cultural exchange, not at all increased competition to local workers.However, that doesn't mean it's legal. Most countries have not spoken out about the legality of remote workers visiting their country and working without a work permit, and the ones who have have mostly made comments that it's okay if it's not work competing with locals, but those aren't official declarations. If you're strict, you can say it's illegal. If you're less strict, you can say it's a legal gray area due to laws lagging behind the reality of remote work. Personally, we believe the last. There haven't been any known cases of people getting arrested in foreign countries for working remotely, yet. In this case, Europeans have it easy, they can legally work anywhere in the European Union without any trouble.It's therefore completely up to you and your risk assessment to choose what to do. Getting a work permit is possible in many countries, although it takes a lot of effort, tax constructions and lawyer fees, and it implies you're going to stay there for many years, which many remote workers aren't sure of. That makes it complicated.

Then again their Navy Seals will save you if you get taken hostage anywhere, many can't say the same.If you're from developed countries, you're usually a tax resident in a country if you live there for 183 days. Although some countries like Taiwan make it shorter at 90 days already.Important: it's up to your national taxation authority (e.g. IRS) to make the judgement if you're a taxable resident or not. They will judge it based on where you're registered as a resident, how many days you are physically in the country, where do you rent/own a house, where do you work, where do you spend your money, where do you have bank accounts and assets, sometimes even where your friends and family are located. This complicates things.There's more odd laws that make it more complicated. The idea that you can just deregister in your country as a resident, fly to the other side of the world and stop paying tax is mostly incorrect. Many developed countries have a so-called tax residency fallback law, which means if you're not a resident elsewhere, you immediately for tax purposes are a taxable resident in the country of your citizenship, or sometimes the last country you were a resident. This means a German citizen who becomes a non-resident, travels around the world to work remotely, is never a resident anywhere, then comes back after 7 years, can potentially be retro-actively taxed for the years he was away for his worldwide income. We know cases where this happened.If you don't want to pay tax in your home country, you literally need to move quite permanently to another country, become a resident there, rent or buy a house there, and actually live there 183 days per year. And preferably, get rid of all assets in your home country, not take on clients in your home country, pretty much cut ties with your home country. Intense, right? You can visit your home country, but you will not even for a second want to consider opening your laptop there and work, because that might make you a tax resident there again. You can visit and have a coffee. That's about it.Please note international tax law is one of the most confusing topics. The internet has thousands of websites that act like they have any idea what's going on, but since you're talking about 187 nationalities moving through 187 countries, there's so many intricacies that it's impossible to get it completely right for even the most advanced tax lawyers. International tax law is simply a gray area too.So what should you do? Realistically, if you're planning to "go nomad" for awhile, stay a resident in your home country (maybe register at your parents house), if you have a company keep it in your home country and pay tax in your home country, as you did before. Your home country keeps receiving its tax and you remain a resident and it probably doesn't mind. What about the countries you're visiting? Again a gray area. Generally if you're not competing with local companies or local people, not hiring local people, not working for local companies in the country you're visiting, you're okay. I'm not saying you're completely legal. But the laws surrounding work permits in countries are generally made to protect local workers and companies. If you're French and your French company has French customers and French employees and you work from another country, it's hard for that country to argue you're competing with companies or the labor market in the country you're visiting.We would suggest consulting an international tax lawyer. But we have to be real here. Right now, they're simply unaffordable. The international tax lawyers that actually know what they're talking about are companies like EY, KPMG, Deloitte etc. They won't advise people making $25,000/year. They advise you when you make $1,000,000/year and they'll charge a lot. But you'll be in the clear. But that's completely unattainable for most people. The international tax lawyers under this amount are simply not good enough. So to be radically honest, international tax for nomads is now a legal minefield. Tread carefully.

How does Photo AI's AI Photo & Video Generator work?

Photo AI uses its own generation pipeline which is trained for high photorealism. The main generation model we use now is Flux. We use many other models to perform other functions like post-processing, upscaling, taking videos, adding audio to videos, adding voice to videos etc.We keep working on improving our pipeline using reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) by users like you which constantly improves our models. All of this to get you better more photorealistic photos and videos!

What AI model do you use?

You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. Go to the top left and click the Photo AI logo, when you are logged in and click Billing, you will be redirected to Stripe's billing portal where you can switch plans. Downgrades will activate at the next billing cycle. Upgrades are instant.

How long does it take to take an AI photo?

Yes! You can upload any clothes and the model will wear them for you. We use the latest state of the art try on models. We have many customers like fashion designers and dropshippers that already use it everyday for Shopify stores. Who created Photo AI?

We did have one but not anymore. It's easier to focus all my energy on just the Photo AI website and make that the best AI photo and video generator out there.If you see one called Photo AI, it’s a rip-off and not related to us!Existing Photo AI iOS subscriptions have all automatically ended.

Is there a Photo AI iOS app?

Due to lots of fraud attempts, we've had to increase our payment security. Firstly, disable your VPN or proxy server. Then make sure your name, CVC and postal code match the one on your payment card and of your bank account. Also your card country should be the same as your billing country. And finally make sure you enable 3D Secure or similar authentication on your card with your bank.We also do not accept customers from the Philippines due to massive and repeated card abuse from there. We’re not planning to change this any time soon.

My payment card is not accepted when signing up

Depending on your plan the time of training can range from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The longer we train your model the higher quality you get. Which is why the higher plans are more expensive!

How long will it take to create my AI model?

We accept JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF files only. HEIC is not supported now, so you'll have to convert those to JPG first


What file formats of photos do you accept for creating an AI model?						

Sometimes yes!Depending on the quality of the uploaded photos, and the type of photos you take, you might see some AI artefacts.With the new Flux model we use, generally stuff like strange anatomy, limbs and especially hands (!) is mostly fixed now.Any app that uses generative AI imaging will have artefacts sometimes. They can be illogical things like extra arms, deformed faces etc. From our experience, about 90% of photos you take will be good enough, and 10% will be very good. We also have an editor (tap [ Edit photo ]) so you can brush away artefacts yourself and regenerate those parts. We're improving Photo AI every day to reduce artefacts for example by auto-detecting them and then re-trying. But remember AI is not perfect yet and we're not promising it is. Nor can any other AI app right now.

Will my AI photos have artefacts?

After every payment you get a receipt and invoice emailed to you by Stripe.

How do I get a receipt and invoice for my payment?

We accept payments via credit or debit cards, including MasterCard, VISA, American Express, as well as iDeal, SOFORT, Bancontact, Przelewy24, Giropay, EPS, GrabPay, AliPay, and many more. However, we do not accept PayPal or cryptocurrency and are not planning to right now.
