Cannot access Telegram "Sorry This phone number is banned."

I created a Telegram account as required, verified it, and it worked for a day. Now I cannot access that account due to message "this phone number is banned." I cannot use a different phone number because I used the number that I travel with: I travel without a SIM with GoogleVoice number, using wifi and a mobile Solis wifi hotspot. I have had this number for over a year and use it for many accounts - but unknown whether GoogleVoice is the issue.

I've sent "Help" from the Android app and via desktop - but no response from them. Google finds many people with this “Telegrammed banned and no response” problem.

I wouldn't care about Telegram other than Nomads requires Telegram just to have a Nomads account active.
